NOTICE ON BREXIT. We ship from Denmark and with the current COVID situation and Brexit, some delay in service can be expected. We fortunately prepared for a hard Brexit and are working hard on setting up our systems, to manage customs and regulations. We hope that we can provide a smooth transition into 2021, but please be patient if issues arise. Thank you for your understanding!
Sustainability is a development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
Reuse of materials will result in less waste and minimize damage to the environment. Our focus is to ensure a sustainable future, and we are continuously working on how we can optimize our processes & packaging to become even more sustainable.
THE NATURE IS OUR MOST IMPORTANT SUPPLIER
WE MUST NURTURE THIS RELATION. EVERYDAY.
Our products are made from the very best natural ingredients; From liquorice roots to cocoa beans, coffee beans from Kieni in Kenya, vanilla from Madagascar, organic chili from a small farm in Denmark, and wild berries handpicked from the forest.
We are deeply dependent on a globally healthy and sustainable nature, and we must do everything we can to take care of our planet.
WORKING WITH THE UN'S GLOBAL GOALS FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
In 2015, world leaders agreed to 17 Global Goals. These goals have the power to create a better world by 2030, by ending poverty, fighting inequality and addressing the urgency of climate change. Guided by the goals, it is now up to all of us, governments, businesses, civil society and the general public to work together to build a better future for everyone.
WHERE CAN WE CONTRIBUTE?
At LAKRIDS BY BÜLOW we focus our work within three goals where we as a confectionery manufacturer have the possibility to really make an impact.
DEFINITION: Our current reliance on fossil fuels is unsustainable and harmful to the planet, which is why we must change the way we produce and consume energy. Implementing these new energy solutions as fast as possible is essential to counter climate change, one of the biggest threats to our own survival.
DEFINITION: Our planet has provided us with an abundance of natural resources. But we have not utilized them responsibly and currently consume far beyond what our planet can provide. We must learn how to use and produce in sustainable ways that will reverse the harm that we have inflicted on the planet.
DEFINITION: The Global Goals can only be met if we work together. International investments and support is needed to ensure innovative technological development, fair trade and market access, especially for developing countries. To build a better world, we need to be supportive, empathetic, inventive, passionate, and above all, cooperative.
GREEN ENERGYFrom 2020, our production is running on 100% green energy. Despite doubling our production output from 2016 to 2020, we managed to reduce our production related CO2 emissions by 98%, since 2016.
PACKAGINGWe are constantly working on reducing the amount of packaging and the impact of the materials we use.
We have reduced the CO2 emissions from packaging by 40% since 2016.
The biggest impact has been the switch in materials for our jars. As the first confectionary producer in the world our jars are made of 100% recycled and recyclable plastic.
WATER SAVINGSWe have reduced water consumption per kilo produced by 34% since 2016, by more efficient cleaning and more modern equipment.
WASTE MANAGEMENTWaste cannot be avoided completely, but it can be reduced, reused and recycled.
“Less but better” is our mantra. As a gourmet manufacturer in a niche market, we are a counterpart to mass production and mass consumption. Our products are purchased to be enjoyed and rarely go to waste.
We have reduced waste per kilo produced by 44% since 2016. This has been achieved through more consistent quality, more accurate sorting and a more effective production flow.
PARTNERSHIPS FOR THE GOALSGoals can only be met if we work together. Choosing the right partners and establishing close relationships is crucial for our sustainable development and future. We carefully source all our ingredients from only the best selected suppliers, to ensure the highest quality and a sustainable production chain.
Additionally, we utilize our reach and power as a company, to support selected organizations and projects that makes a difference regarding the global goals for sustainable development.
OUR NEW JARS ARE RECYCLED AND RECYCLABLE
Our new jar is made from 100% recycled plastic. We will remove the metal from the seal of the packaging. The lid is made of virgin plastic, but we are working hard on finding a more sustainable solution for this part of the packaging. Once you have enjoyed your liquorice and the jar is empty, we encourage you to help us protect the planet by placing it in the container for plastic waste – allowing it to have a new life.
"Our jars have a past - by recycling you can give them a future"
- Johan Bülow
